İstanbul - Tenth hearing of the trial where Academics for Peace petition’s signatories Esra Mungan, Meral Camcı, Muzaffer Kaya and Kıvanç Ersoy face “making terrorist propaganda” charges is held at Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court. This was the first lawsuit filed against Academics for Peace, who signed a petition titled “We will not take part in this crime.”
Mungan and Camcı were present in the courtroom. Their lawyer Meriç Eyüboğlu could not attend the hearing due to a medical excuse. Mungan and Camcı stated that they would like to present their defense statements in the presence of their lawyer and the court accepted this request.
In its interim decision, the court decided to wait for Muzaffer Kaya and Kıvanç Ersoy’s rogatory letters to be received from Germany. Both academics live abroad and have accepted the terms for the sentence to be deferred. Their final defense statements will be heard in Germany and will be relayed to Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court. The court decided to wait for this process to be finalized and adjourned the trial until 15 October.
