Documentary producer Sibel Tekin, LBGTI activist Ali Erol, who were taken into police custody on 2 February for criticizing Turkey's military campaign in the Afrin area of Syria were released, Kamera Sokak reported on 6 February.
Tekin, who is also a reporter for the Seyri Sokak video-activism collective and Erol, who is a leading activist and a founder of the LBGTI-rights group were released along with literary critic Emek Erek, head of the Forestry Service Branch Union Hamit Kurt and Songül Akbay, ana advisor for Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) politician Figen Yüksekdağ.
As of 5 February, 449 people had been detained for social media posts criticizing the Afrin operation, which authorities in Turkey have mostly chosen to treat as "online terror propaganda," according to figures from the Interior Ministry.
