Basic Disaster Management Training held in Istanbul on September 28-29

A "Basic Disaster Management Training" was held at Istanbul Postane on September 28-29, 2024, organized by the Freedom Research Association and the Media and Law Studies Association. Civil society and media representatives from earthquake-affected regions participated in the event.

The two-day training program provided comprehensive information on disaster preparedness, response strategies, and psychosocial support.

The training was led by experts Asuman Şahin and Özlem Çolak. On the first day, key topics such as disaster preparedness and response strategies, mental health, psychosocial support, and protecting workers during disaster situations were covered. The second day focused on psychological first aid, coordination structures during disasters, stakeholder relationships, and rights-based approaches.

The training opened with an introduction where participants got to know one another, and the event's goals were outlined. Morning sessions on the first day addressed disaster preparedness and response strategies, followed by discussions on the mental health impacts of disasters and psychosocial support methods. In the afternoon, participants learned about self-care and maintaining psychological well-being in the aftermath of disasters.

The second day began with a reflection on the previous day and the sharing of experiences. Participants then received information on community-based efforts and rights-based approaches in post-disaster response. The event concluded with a closing session, where attendees shared their feedback and suggestions.
