Can Dündar's 'espionage' case adjourned until February

The former editor-in-chief of Cumhuriyet newspaper faced espionage charges before İstanbul 14. High Criminal Court today. The hearing was closed to the public.

Dündar's lawyer Abbas Yalçın, President Erdoğan's lawyers Hatice Özay and Sara Duran, and National Intelligency Agency lawyers Fuat Midas and Ümit Ulvi Canik were the only participants.

Dündar currently resides in Germany. The Department of Justice has worked with the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecution Office to request his extradition back to Turkey, and are now waiting for the approval of the Department of Foreign Affairs. The prosecution requested that the hearing be adjourned until Department of Foreign Affairs provided its verdict. The court accepted the request and adjourned the hearing until February 6 2019.
