Documentary filmmaker Sibel Tekin’s trial resumes, postponed for witness testimony
The trial of documentary filmmaker Sibel Tekin, charged with "making terrorist propaganda" and "violating the freedom to work," resumed after being overturned by the appeals court for insufficient investigation. The third hearing took place at the Ankara 2nd High Criminal Court, where the case was postponed for the testimony of a key witness.
The charges stem from Tekin’s participation in covering a protest at NTV’s Ankara bureau nine years ago. An expert report mistakenly identified another individual as Tekin. In her defense, Tekin rejected the report, stating, "I do not accept the expert report. A staff member from NTV has confirmed that the person mentioned is not me. Additionally, footage shows that I was outside recording the event, making it impossible for me to be both inside and outside the building at the same time."
Tekin’s lawyer, Mehtap Sakinci, requested a postponement as the witness, Nazlı Buket Yazıcı, was unable to attend the hearing.
The court adjourned the trial to November 7, 2024, at 10:40 a.m.
