The pro-government Turkuvaz Group, which also owns the presidential mouthpiece Sabah newspaper, has bought the D&R bookstore chain, which owns 157 stores across the country, Cumhuriyet reported on 13 April Friday.

Turkuvaz's existing bookstore chain TveK doesn't carry opposition newspapers such as Evrensel, Cumhuriyet or Sözcü.

According to Cumhuriyet's report, D&R was sold for TL 440 million.

The Turkuvaz Group is led by Ömer Faruk Kalyoncu, a businessman known for his close ties to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
