Trial ongoing for six years postponed for completion of defense statements
In a trial involving 23 individuals, including journalists and lawyers, facing allegations of "membership" and "propaganda," the case was postponed to July 3 for the completion of defense statements related to a consolidated file.
The 26th hearing of the case against 23 people, including İsminaz Temel, editor at Etkin News Agency (ETHA), former reporter Havva Cuştan, and attorneys from the Law Bureau of the Oppressed (EHB), accused of "organization membership" and "organization propaganda," was held today, April 4, 2024, at the 27th High Criminal Court in Istanbul.
The defendants, who were not present at the hearing, were represented by their lawyers Sezin Uçar, Özlem Gümüştaş, and Ali Haydar Doğan. Attorneys from the French Bar were also in attendance. It was noted during the session that a separate case against Uçar and Gümüştaş had been merged with the current case file.
Attorney Sezin Uçar, acknowledging the lengthy duration of the trial, requested additional time to prepare her defense statement regarding the merged file.
Following the prosecutor's repetition of their sentencing request, the court postponed the hearing to July 3, 2024, to allow for the presentation of defense statements pertaining to the consolidated case file.
