MLSA - The fifth issue of GazeMLSA, a long-running mentorship programme bringing together young journalists and veterans, is out.
The initial preparations for this issue had begun with a news workshop held in Şile, a picturesque town near Istanbul, from November 3-26.
The programe coordinators include MLSA's team and Banu Tuna, head of the Istanbul branch of the journalists union TGS and Gökçer Tahincioğlu, Ankara representative of the independent news website T24.
Fourteen young journalists, some students and others working in local or national media, received training in various aspects of journalism over three days. Veteran journalist Tuğrul Eryılmaz instructed on ethical values in journalism and news writing techniques. Experienced journalists participating in the workshop, including Özlem Akarsu Çelik on video journalism, Hale Gönültaş on investigative journalism, and Uraz Kaspar on podcast journalism, also shared their expertise.
Following the workshop, news meetings conducted online evaluated the reports prepared by these young journalists, discussing improvements and necessary steps. The latest issue, published online today (February 13, 2024), features 22 news stories by 17 young journalists.
