- Trial where film director Kazım Öz faces “membership in an armed terrorist organization” charges will be held at Tunceli 2nd High Criminal Court this week. Attending Peace and Democracy Party’s (BDP) Politics Academy, attending the Gezi protests and some tape recordings of his phone conversations are presented as evidence against Öz, whose films include Bahoz and Zer. Prosecutor demands up to 15 years in prison for Öz.
2 September Wednesday
- First hearing of the trial where Rûdaw TV reporter Rawin Sterk will face “membership in a terrorist organization” and “terror propaganda” charges will be held at Istanbul 34th High Criminal Court. Stêrk was taken in custody while reporting on the border crossings of refugees near Turkey’s border with Greece on February 28 and was later taken to Ankara because of an ongoing investigation against him. Stêrk was arrested on March 6 for “terror propaganda” charges following an investigation against his social media accounts. The indictment against the journalist was submitted last month, after Stêrk had already spent 5 months behind bars.
3 September Thursday
- The trial where since shuttered Dicle News Agency reporter Selman Keleş and journalist Arif Aslan face “membership in a terrorist organization” charges will resume at Van 5th High Criminal Court. Two journalists were arrested on 30 March 2017 while taking photos near Van Municipality building as terror suspects and were released during the first hearing of their trial, which was held on 21 November 2017.
