Tuesday, October 7
10:00 a.m. – In Diyarbakır, the 9th High Criminal Court will hold a hearing in the trial of Nurcan Yalçın, who is charged with “committing a crime on behalf of an organization without being a member” and violating the “Law on the Prevention of Financing of Terrorism.” Yalçın is being retried after a previous prison sentence was overturned by an appellate court. A new charge in the case accuses her of providing financial support to an inmate.
10:30 a.m. – The trial of human rights defender Nimet Tanrıkulu on charges of “membership in a terrorist organization” will continue at the Istanbul 24th High Criminal Court.
Wednesday, October 8
9:55 a.m. – Journalist Rüstem Batum will appear before the Istanbul 60th Criminal Court of First Instance on charges of “insulting the president” over two posts on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). His legal defense is being handled by MLSA.
11:10 a.m. – The Istanbul 23rd High Criminal Court will hold a hearing in the case of journalist Pınar Gayıp, who is charged with “membership in a terrorist organization” and “spreading terrorist propaganda.”
Thursday, October 9
9:20 a.m. – The first hearing in the trial of journalist Hakkı Boltan and publisher Delil Zengeralp will take place at the Diyarbakır 4th High Criminal Court. The two are accused of “spreading terrorist propaganda” for allegedly selling banned books at the Aram Publishing House stand during the 2024 TÜYAP Book Fair, held at the Mezopotamya International Fair and Congress Center.
9:50 a.m. – The Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court will hear the case of lawyer Adile Salman, who is charged with “membership in a terrorist organization.” The indictment cites her professional activities and communications with colleagues as evidence.
11:30 a.m. – Journalist Rahime Karvar will appear before the Istanbul 24th High Criminal Court, where she is on trial for “membership in a terrorist organization.”
2:00 p.m. – The Istanbul 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance will hold a hearing in the trial of journalist Melisa Gülbaş, who is charged with “insulting a public official” over a news report about the administration of Boğaziçi University.
Separately, journalist and TV presenter Reyhan Hacıoğlu will appear again before the Van 2nd High Criminal Court on charges of “membership in a terrorist organization.” Hacıoğlu had previously been released under judicial control.
Friday, October 10
11:00 a.m. – The Istanbul 14th Criminal Court of First Instance will hear the case of 30 people, including journalists Elif Bayburt and Nisa Sude Demirel, who were covering protests in Istanbul’s Saraçhane district following the detention of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. The defendants are charged with “participating in an unlawful assembly and failing to disperse despite warnings.”
