Diyarbakır – The second hearing of journalist Berivan Kutlu, who is being tried on the charge of “making propaganda for a terrorist organization” due to posts she made on social media after the Maraş earthquakes, has begun. Lawyer Resul Temur attended the hearing held at Diyarbakır 4th High Criminal Court. Observers from the Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA) and the Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) also watched the hearing.
In the previous session, the court had decided that the video allegedly shared by Kutlu would be transcribed, and then the case file would be sent to the prosecution for the preparation of the opinion as to the merits.
The hearing, which began with identity verification, included a brief defense by Resul Temur, who drew attention to the 2-minute-59-second video recording examined by the police, emphasizing that the examined footage might be a different video. Resul Temur said: “The examined video is 2 minutes 55 seconds, while the one sent by the police is 2 minutes 59 seconds. There is also no video recording shared by my client.”
The short hearing was postponed to April 14 at 10:00 a.m. after the prosecution requested time to prepare their opinion.
