Journalist Uğur Yılmaz’s trial is adjourned because the prosecutor has changed
Bitlis - Fourteenth hearing of the trial where journalist Uğur Yılmaz, whom MLSA defends in court, faces “membership in a terrorist organization” and “terrorist propaganda” charges for his journalistic activities was held at Bitlis 2nd High Criminal Court today.
The court had requested the public prosecutor to prepare the final opinion as to the merits of the case in the previous hearing, which was held on July 18th. However, it was revealed today that the prosecutor and the presiding judge have been replaced since the last hearing. The prosecutor's opinion as to the merits of the case could not be prepared because of this and the court decided to send the case file to the new prosecutor.
The trial is adjourned until October 22.
Who is Uğur Yılmaz?
Journalist Uğur Yılmaz is tried whilst in detention and has been detained since 17 July, 2017. Yılmaz used to work at the Bitlis Municipality's Press Bureau. His reporting and social media posts from that period is presented as evidence against him in this trial.
