ANKARA — The sixth hearing in the trial of 37 students charged over their participation in a Pride March held at Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara on June 10, 2022, was held at the Ankara 30th Criminal Court of First Instance. The case was adjourned until Dec. 23.
The students were charged under Article 32/1 of Turkey’s Law on Meetings and Demonstrations with “participating unarmed in an unlawful meeting or demonstration and failing to disperse voluntarily despite a warning.”
The hearing began as scheduled, with lawyers representing some of the defendants and the court present.
Following a change of judge in the case, the court reviewed the existing case file and ordered that defendants whose defense statements had not been heard at previous hearings be summoned to appear for trial.
The next hearing was set for Dec. 23.
About the case
