On April 23, police detained nine journalists during coordinated raids in Istanbul, Ankara, and Şanlıurfa, with a subsequent 24-hour restriction placed on their case files. The legal team, including members from the MLSA Legal Unit, has filed objections to both the detentions and the imposed restrictions.
The reasons for the journalists' detentions were not disclosed following the morning operations. Those arrested include Mehmet Aslan, a reporter with Mezopotamya Agency (MA) in Ankara; Esra Solin Dal, another MA reporter; Enes Sezgin from Yeni Yaşam Newspaper; and other media staff such as Saliha Aras, Yeşim Alıcı, Beste Argat Balcı, Şirin Ermiş in Istanbul, and Erdoğan Alayumat from Yeni Özgür Politika. Former MA reporter Doğan Kaynak was detained in a home raid in Şanlıurfa.
The lawyers' appeals challenge the legality of the detentions and the restriction orders, emphasizing concerns over procedural fairness and the rights of the journalists involved.
