Police raid home of Sendika.org editor Çağlar Özbilgin

Police raided and searched the Ankara home of Çağlar Özbilgin -- an editor at the critical independent news website Sendika.org --  on 21 February, Sendika reported.

Özbilgin could not be located in his home and therefore couldn't be detained. Lawyers for the journalist said police wanted Özbilgin over his social media posts criticizing Turkey's military operations in Afrin, a Kurdish enclave in Syria, on charges of "spreading terrorist propaganda."

According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior Affairs made 449 people had been detained for sharing posts critical of the operations and  124 for joining protests, bringing the total number to  573 as of 5 February. The ministry didn't say how many of those detained had been formally arrested.
