The “Preparation for Association Audits and Capacity-Building Workshop,” organized in collaboration between the Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA) and ARTICLE 19, was held on November 28, 2025, at Raymar Hotel in Ankara.
The workshop aimed to help civil society organizations (CSOs) better prepare for association audits and strengthen their institutional capacity. Participants included civil society representatives from various provinces across Turkey.
The program covered a wide range of topics, starting with an introduction to association regulations, and continuing with audit procedures following Law No. 7262, tax and social security transactions, membership and governance structures, donation and membership fee declarations, as well as audit and closure procedures.
Throughout the day-long sessions, participants attentively followed the presentations and also had the opportunity to share the administrative and financial challenges faced by their own organizations. The Q&A segments provided a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience among different civil society groups. The discussions and suggestions raised during the workshop contributed to developing solutions for common issues encountered during audit processes.
During the event, Kerem Dikmen, Legal Coordinator at KAOS GL, outlined recent developments in association legislation and key legal considerations for audits. Financial advisor Samet Güçlü shared insights on financial processes, frequent mistakes, and focal points during audits, while MLSA’s accounting officer Can Akgün presented practical solutions to everyday issues faced by associations in their operations.
