The “Preparation for Association Audits and Capacity Building Workshop”, organized in cooperation with the Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA) and ARTICLE 19, was held on October 17, 2025, at Point Hotel Taksim in Istanbul.
The workshop aimed to better prepare civil society organizations for association audit processes and to strengthen their institutional capacities. Civil society representatives from different provinces of Turkey attended the event.
In the program, many topics were addressed, starting from an introduction to association legislation, audit processes after Law No. 7262, tax and Social Security Institution (SGK) procedures, membership and governing body structures, donation and dues declarations, as well as audit and closure processes.
Throughout the day-long sessions, participants both carefully followed the presentations and had the opportunity to share the administrative and financial problems faced by their own institutions. The experiences shared during the Q&A sessions laid the groundwork for the exchange of information and experience among different civil society organizations. The discussions and suggestions that emerged during the workshop contributed to the development of solutions to common problems faced in association audit processes.
At the event, KAOS GL Legal Coordinator Lawyer Kerem Dikmen conveyed recent developments in association legislation and legal issues to be considered in audits; Financial Advisor Samet Güçlü shared the financial processes of associations, common mistakes made, and topics that stand out during audits. MLSA Accounting Officer Can Akgün explained solution suggestions regarding practical problems encountered by associations in daily practice.
