Trial of journalist Şerife Oruç postponed once again

The long-running trial of journalist Şerife Oruç on charges of “membership in a terrorist organization” was postponed once again after the 30th hearing was held at the Batman 2nd High Criminal Court in southeastern Turkey. Oruç, who was a reporter for the now-shuttered Dicle News Agency (DİHA), has been on trial since 2016.

Şerife Oruç did not attend the latest hearing. Her lawyer, Mesut Aydın, was present in court.

No defense statements were made during the session, which began with identity verification. The court ruled to wait for the execution of an outstanding arrest warrant issued in earlier hearings on the grounds that Oruç had violated judicial control measures. The panel also ordered that procedural deficiencies in the case file be resolved.

The next hearing was scheduled for June 16, 2026.
