Barış Ceyhan, an employee with the pro-Kurdish Özgürlükçü Demokrasi newspaper, was arrested on 31 January over social media posts criticizing Turkey's military actions in the Kurdish enclave of Afrin in Syria.
He was detained first over his tweets and then taken to the prosecutor's office where he testified. He was then referred to a Criminal Judgeship of Peace on duty, which issued an arrest ruling for Ceyhan on charges of "terror propaganda" and "inciting the public to hatred and hostility."
Ceyhan was sent to Sincan Prison.
His arrest brings the total number of journalists and media workers in Turkey to 154. For a full list click here.
