In the ongoing legal battle over the closure of the Migration Monitoring Association (GÖÇİZDER), the court has postponed the trial to June, deciding to request an examination of the association's publications from the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. This decision was made during the fourth hearing of the case on March 20.
GÖÇİZDER, an organization dedicated to enhancing social solidarity among forcibly displaced groups and advocating for the humane living conditions of migration victims, faced its fourth hearing at the Bakırköy 15th Civil Court of First Instance. Lawyer Ahmet Baran Çelik represented the association at the hearing.
Previously, GÖÇİZDER's members and executives had been acquitted of terrorism charges on February 9, 2024, by the Istanbul 26th High Criminal Court, and this acquittal decision was added to the current case file.
Following the Chief Public Prosecutor's request to address deficiencies in the case, Lawyer Baran Çelik argued that the file was complete according to its scope. However, he agreed to fulfill any additional requirements deemed necessary by the court.
The case dossier includes a report from the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK), along with findings from social media and digital examinations of documents related to the association. It was highlighted that only the examination report was included in the summary of proceedings. The court found it necessary to request the actual publications and materials under investigation from the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for further examination.
The court decided to obtain these materials, especially the association's publications, for examination from the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and postponed the next hearing to June 26, 2024.
