T24 writer Hasan Cemal was sentenced to 3 months and 22 days in prison on 3 April for publishing a series of articles chronicling the retreatment of Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants at the end of a series of talks with Turkish officials, T24 reported.
The 24th High Criminal Court handed down the sentence on charges of "spreading propaganda on behalf of a terrorist organization" for articles where he reported on PKK militants’ withdrawal from Turkey as part of talks between the group and Turkey -- called the peace process -- in 2013.
The journalist rejected the charges of terror propaganda in his court statement, saying he was only defending peace.
