Journalists Nurcan Baysal and Sibel Hürtaş released from custody

Diyarbakır journalist Nurcan Baysal was released from police detention on 24 January while Ankara journalist Sibel Hürtaş was let go on 25 January, after being held in detention for four days for criticizing Turkish government’s  military actions in Syria.

Baysal was released after testifying to prosecutors.

Sibel Hürtaş, who was detained for sharing a news report she drafted on Afrin, a Kurdish enclave in Syria where Turkey is conducting a military incursion, was also released.

However, Seda Taşkın, a Mezopotamya news agency reporter, was arrested on 23 January for her social media posts criticizing the Afrin operation

Journalists İshak Karakaş and Mezopotamia News Agency reporters were also detained as part of the same operation. Karakaş was later arrested on terror propaganda charges.
