The pro-Kurdish news agency Mesopotamia (MA) claimed that Journalist İdris Yılmaz, who was imprisoned on 22 January for criticizing Turkey’s ongoing military campaign in Syria, was denied water by staff at Elazığ High-Security Prison, in a report published on 10 February.
According to the report, Yılmaz, in a weekly phone call with his family, said he had been in solitary confinement for a week. The family stated that prison guards refused to stop for a bathroom break as he was brought to the prison. He also said he was not allowed to buy bottled water from the prison cafeteria.
