Journalist Hülya Emeç, who was given a prison term of seven years and six months, was allowed entry into Switzerland, after being kept at the Zurich Airport since 20 January, the pro-Kurdish and feminist news website JinNews said.
JinNews said Emeç’s prison sentence, which was handed down for her journalism, was held by a high court in Turkey. Emeç was seeking asylum in Switzerland, to where she had flown from Brazil on 20 January.
Earlier, Swiss migration officials ordered to return the journalist to Brazil, which they classified a “safe country.” However, the decision was appealed at a Swiss court after which Emeç was allowed entry into the country.
