This week, various journalism and freedom of expression cases will continue to be heard.

Throughout the week, the MLSA Case Monitoring Unit will share developments from the hearings in Turkish and English via @MLSADavaTakip.

October 21, Monday
10:00 AM - The hearing of the case seeking the closure of the Tarlabaşı Community Support Association will continue at the Istanbul 18th Civil Court of First Instance.

October 22, Tuesday

09:05 AM - The hearing regarding 11 individuals who were detained for attempting to organize a demonstration in memory of the 103 people who lost their lives on the second anniversary of the October 10 Gar Massacre, charged with "violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911," will be held at the Ankara 43rd Criminal Court of First Instance.

09:15 AM - The fifth hearing of the case against Jin News News Director Sofya (Safiye) Alağaş, charged with "membership in a terrorist organization" based on the agency's news, will be held at the Diyarbakır 5th Heavy Penal Court.

09:35 AM - The 17th hearing of the case against journalist Hayko Bağdat, who is charged with "insulting the president" and for which MLSA is providing legal defense, will be held at the Istanbul 51st Criminal Court of First Instance.

01:35 PM - The case filed by the MLSA Legal Unit against the Ministry of Finance for material and moral damages due to the unlawful search of journalist İrfan Uçar's home, the seizure of his materials, and his subjection to judicial control will be heard at the Gaziantep 1st Heavy Penal Court.

11:05 AM - Women who have been charged with defamation for calling former Istanbul Security Branch Director Hanifi Zengin "a harasser" will begin their trial at the Istanbul Anadolu 27th Criminal Court of First Instance.

09:50 AM - The fifth hearing of the case against Mezopotamya News Agency Editor Abdurrahman Gök, who was imprisoned for 225 days under the accusation of "membership in a terrorist organization," will be held at the Diyarbakır 5th Heavy Penal Court.

October 23, Wednesday
09:30 AM - The hearing of the case against singer Ferhat Tunç, charged with "inciting the public to hatred and hostility," will continue at the Büyükçekmece 4th Criminal Court of First Instance.

02:00 PM - The hearing regarding 21 students who were detained for protesting Melih Bulu's appointment as rector of Boğaziçi University by President Erdoğan, charged with "violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911," will be held at the Ankara 20th Criminal Court of First Instance.

October 24, Thursday
09:45 AM - The fifth hearing of the case against Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) Co-Chair Dicle Müftüoğlu, who was imprisoned for 306 days under the charge of "membership in a terrorist organization," will be held at the Diyarbakır 5th Heavy Penal Court. The MLSA Legal Unit will support Müftüoğlu's defense.

09:55 AM - The retrial of journalist Çetin Yılmaz, who is charged with "terror propaganda," will begin at the Manisa 2nd Heavy Penal Court. The Constitutional Court had ruled that Yılmaz's right to a fair trial was violated regarding the one-year and six-month prison sentence given for this charge.

10:05 AM - The fourth hearing of the case against Yeni Yaşam Editor-in-Chief Mehmet Ferhat Çelik and Responsible Editor Osman Akın, charged with "defamation" and "insult" based on a complaint from Serhat Albayrak, Vice Chairman of the Turkuvaz Media Group, will be held at the Istanbul 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance.

October 25, Friday
10:00 AM - The 10th hearing of the case against 70 individuals who were detained during the 9th Pride March held at Boğaziçi University campus in 2022, charged with "participating unarmed in unlawful meetings and marches despite warnings to disperse," and two others charged with "resisting public officials," will take place at the Istanbul 58th Criminal Court of First Instance.
