In the week of October 30, several journalism and freedom of expression cases are scheduled for hearings. Journalist Fırat Can Arslan, imprisoned for 100 days due to his news reports, will appear before the judge for the first time this week.
Fırat Can Arslan was arrested for sharing news about the transfer of the prosecutor responsible for the indictment of 18 journalists on trial in Diyarbakır and the judge's wife, who was part of the panel overseeing the journalists' trial. Arslan is facing charges for allegedly "targeting public officials involved in the fight against terrorism."
Mehmet Şah Oruç, who has been in Diyarbakır Closed Prison for 188 days on charges related to his news reports, will have his second hearing on Tuesday, October 31, at Bitlis 2nd High Criminal Court.
The long-standing KCK Press Trial, which has spanned nearly 11 years and involves 46 journalists and media workers facing "terrorism" charges, will continue with hearings this week.
The case filed against 46 people detained during the police intervention against the 700th weekly meeting of Saturday Mothers/People in Galatasaray Square, on the allegation of "violating Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations," will also be held this week.
