MLSA is looking for a full-time project coordinator. The position offers the opportunity to work in a human rights association and to take part in advocacy and project work for freedom of expression and the press. The deadline for applications is September 30, 2024.

Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA) is a human rights organization committed to protecting freedom of expression, press freedom, the right to assemble and protest, and access to information in Turkey. It serves as a vital platform where journalism and legal expertise merge to safeguard these freedoms, particularly for journalists, lawyers, and human rights defenders facing increasing challenges. The organization is located in Beyoğlu/İstanbul.
Requirements for this position:
- Proficiency in Turkish and English is a must.
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required; a Master’s degree is preferable
- Experience in project implementation is preferable
- Experience in journalistic activities (news writing, editing) is a plus
- Pro-activeness and ability to work both independently and in a team
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the design, planning, and implementation of freedom of expression projects. Ensure project objectives are met within time and budget constraints.
- Assist in managing MLSA’s social media accounts
- Prepare and submit narrative and financial reports to donors on time. Archiving and keeping track of the grants that the organization receives. Manage all aspects of the grant lifecycle, from initiation to close-out.
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities from foreign donors, including governments, foundations, and international NGOs. Draft, submit, and manage grant applications, ensuring compliance with donor requirements.
- Ensure proper documentation of project activities, outcomes, and financial expenditures.
- Coordinate activities and deliverables with project teams and partners.
- Represent MLSA at regular meetings with partners, maintain contact with other CSOs
Hiring process:

Candidates will be invited for an interview no later than 5th October after the initial evaluation. Those not invited to the interview will be notified by email no later than 5th October 2024.
The first round of interviews will occur in the second and third weeks of October.
Additional information:
MLSA usually does not work outside normal office hours (10 am - 6 pm) but in this position, social media management tasks and participation in civil society events may continue on weekends. This is not a project-based role; as such, it is a long-term position with complementary health insurance to SGK, and meals at the office are provided.
